Constanza Segovia

Constanza Segovia is an artist, advocate, Owner and Creative Director of Veo Veo, and leader of the Hartford Deportation Defense (HDD) / Colectivo de Defensa de Hartford.

In this interview, she talks about her family’s decision to move to the United States for economic reasons. When speaking about her transition to US life, Segovia focuses on her experience as an immigrant and non-English speaker in schools, the family’s transition to US life, and how they kept their connection to their native country. These experiences lead to the creation of the Hartford Deportation Defense. Segovia also discusses the art scene and community in Hartford, and how it has influenced her growth as an artist as well as her style. Furthermore, Segovia shares her life and challenges as a mother and stepmother, the importance of activism in her life, as well as the need for spaces for artists in Hartford and her wishes for the future of art in the city. For Segovia, the Parkville neighborhood is a great example of diversity in every form. Segovia ends her interview talking about how she balances all her work.
